1. What makes floating so beneficial?
The warm, soothing water in the floatation bed is ideal for relaxation. Your muscles are idle as you float and send a chemical message to your brain saying, in effect, “Relax.” Blood vessels near the skin release, allowing for better blood flow. Within minutes you feel better and less stressed, while your mind and body become more relaxed. The increased blood flow and weightlessness promote healing of muscle strains and relief from joint pain. Research shows that when the brain is freed from gravity, temperature, sight, sound, and touch, it enters into a brainwave state that normally can be achieved only through deep meditation. Floating provides the same benefits as years of meditative training — in much less time.
2. What creates the feeling of relaxation while I’m floating?
The floatation bed provides a sensory-free environment, so the noise and chaos of the real world are totally eliminated. A float session starts with soft music to help you relax. The warm, soothing water, provides a womb-like comfort. You are weightless, so pressure to joints and muscles is removed. As a result, your mind and body will naturally relax.
3. What keeps the floatation bed clean and safe?
The risk of catching anything from another floatation-bed user is virtually nonexistent. Epsom salt naturally kills bacteria. Also, we pump the used water through a filter, which removes all particles, and we use a chlorine solution that sterilizes the bed, eliminating any bacteria or viruses. The curved shape of the bed also discourages bacteria growth. In addition, Epsom salt is nontoxic, so it won't harm you if you accidentally swallow it.
4. Is it true that floating can improve my athletic performance?
Research has found that floating stimulates brain waves associated with deep relaxation and meditation, which, if channeled correctly, can consistently improve performance in various activities and sports. Relaxed muscles are less prone to injury and operate more efficiently.
5. Does floating really save me time?
Yes. One hour of floating gives you the benefits of four hours of deep sleep, which will make you more productive during waking hours. In fact, there are people who own their own floatation beds and sleep in them regularly, claiming they need less overall sleep because of it.
6. How does floating improve my sleep?
As a result of floating, you will start experiencing more beneficial sleep. The relaxed state that you enter while floating continues well after your session and helps you fall asleep and stay relaxed during sleep. You will awake more energized.
7. Is it true that floating cures jet lag?
It can take up to a few days before our body’s internal clock can reset itself after a long flight. Research shows that floating can be more relaxing than regular sleep in a bed and can help speed up or eliminate the jet-lag cycle.
8. Can I float as many times as I want?
Yes. You can float every day without harm. We find that the relaxing effect of a one-hour float typically lasts beyond a day, and therefore a floating session once or twice a week can be beneficial.
9. What if I feel more comfortable floating with the lights on?
You have complete control over the lights while in your floatation bed. You may choose to have them on or off during your session.
10. How does air circulate through the floatation bed?
The air inside is warm and rises by convection. There is a vent at the top for “used” air to leave while fresh air enters near the water line.
11. What keeps me from turning over?
The water is only 8 to 10 inches deep and is much heavier than ordinary water because of the added 600 to 800 lbs. of Epsom salt, which raises the density to a level greater than the human body. So it is impossible to turn over or sink.
12. What is the temperature of the water?
Your floatation bed is heated at all times, so you won’t get cold like you would in a regular bath. The temperature of the water, at 93.5 degrees, you’ll adjust quickly to allow for a relaxing floatation session.
13. Why does my skin feel so soft after my floatation session?
That’s the Epsom salt. It is found naturally in many spa waters but is much different from sea salt or table salt. Epsom salt is nourishing for the skin.
14. Does it matter if I’m not a swimmer?
Floating is as easy as taking a bath. You can touch the bottom with your hands and the density of the water, created by the Epsom salt, makes it impossible to sink.
15. Can anyone float?
Yes. The density of the water allows any body type and height, up to 7’-8”, to float effortlessly.
16. Is there an age limit for floating?
We recommend that you be 18 years old or older to use a floating bed. However, floating is on a case-by-case basis, provided that a parent or guardian is present at an orientation session and gives consent.
17. What keeps my hair from being damaged?
You can wash or rinse your hair before and after your floatation session, although there is nothing in the Epsom salt solution that will damage your hair.
18. How does Epsom salt prevent sinking?
The density of the water is raised (600–800 pounds) to a level greater than the human body, making it impossible to sink.
19. What should I bring?
We provide a towel, shampoo, conditioner, shower gels and moisturizers. You may need a brush if you have longer hair, or hair product if you want to redo your hair. Also, we recommend floating without a swimsuit. After your float, you may relax in our transitional area and enjoy tea or water.
20. Will my skin get wrinkly?
No. The high salt content of the water means that the water will not draw the salt from your skin, causing wrinkles like a long bath does. Epsom salt is actually quite nourishing for the skin, and yours will feel silky smooth after your float session.
21. What if I am claustrophobic?
RejoovMe offers a no-lid floatation bed that allows you to experience floating without feeling claustrophobic. In addition, the covered floatation beds are in private, lockable suites, so if you wish to leave the lid open, you certainly can. You also can leave on the light.
22. Can I float if I am pregnant?
Yes, although it’s always a good idea to check with your doctor first. The weightless environment of the tank is actually greatly beneficial for expectant mothers because it relieves the stress and strain on the back and abdominal muscles. The deep state of relaxation is also wonderful for both mother and child.
